How to make a
Lazy Daisy stitch
The name says it all! It is surely the easiest (dare I say laziest?) way to create cute little flowers or leaves. A close cousin of the chain stitch it is super easy and it can quickly be mastered to become part of your stitching skill set.
There are several variations of the lazy daisy stitch as you can see in my sampler image. The loops can be pulled tight to make long thin-nish petals or made more loosely to create a rounder petal.

Step by step
Follow along and you will very soon master this easy and versatile lazy daisy stitch.
The lazy daisy stitch is perfect for creating cute little flower designs on your embroidery projects. Don’t worry, it’s a simple stitch that you can easily learn with a little bit of practice. So, let’s get started!
Step 1: Thread your Needle
First things first, you need to thread your needle. Choose a thread that matches the color of the petals you want to make. Cut a length of thread that is about 18 inches long and then thread it through the eye of the needle. Make a knot at the end.
Step 2: Start the Stitch
Bring the needle up from the back through the fabric where you want to create the first petal of your flower. You can use a fabric pen or pencil to draw a small dot where you want the center of your flower to be. Or simple following along with the pattern you are working with.
Step 3: Make the Petal Loop
Take the needle down through the same point you came up from, but don’t pull it through completely. Leave a roomy loop behind to make the petal of the flower. You can make the loop as big or small as you want, depending on the size of the petals you want to create.
Step 4: Secure the Petal
After making a loop of desirable size, push up the needle at the top of the loop, on the inner edge. Pull out the thread gently. This will secure the petal in place and create a nice shape for your flower.
Step 5: Complete the Petal
Poke down your needle on the outside of the top edge of the petal, keeping it close to the perforation point of step 3. This will create a small stitch that will hold the petal in place. Make sure not to poke the needle through the center of the petal loop.
Step 6: Start a New Petal
Now bring your needle up through the starting point of the petal and repeat steps 1 to 4 for making another petal of the daisy. Continue making petals until your flower is complete.
Step 7: Finishing Up
Once you have finished making all the petals for your lazy daisy flower, tie off the thread on the back of the fabric. You can also add a small French knot in the center of the flower for added detail.
